Méabh Smyth — Fiddle
Armagh fiddle player Méabh Smyth is one of the leading musicians of her generation in Irish traditional music. She began playing fiddle at the age of seven and grew up in a musical family: her parents, Rosie and Thomas Smyth, are both fiddle players. A former pupil of Armagh Pipers Club, Méabh's music draws particularly on the strong rhythmic fiddle traditions of South Ulster and Donegal, while she has developed a distinctive individual style of her own.
Her achievements include winning the Ed Reavy Fiddle Player of the Year competition in 2016 and becoming the inaugural winner of the Fiddler of London competition in 2021. In 2023 she received one of traditional music's most significant distinctions when TG4 named her Ceoltóir Óg na Bliana – Young Musician of the Year at the Gradam Ceoil awards. She was also a recipient of the Arts Council of Northern Ireland/BBC Young Musicians' Platform Award.
Méabh performs with her brother Tiarnán Smyth; the pair released a self-titled EP in 2017 and were semi-finalists in the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Musician competition that year. Her television work includes TG4's Sruth. Most recently, Méabh was selected as a fiddle tutor for Féile Chois Cuain 2026 in Louisburgh, County Mayo.
